Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENA GUSHULIAK April 15, 1922 March 1, 2008 Sadly, we announce that Lena, age 85 years, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Surrey, BC. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Mike (2006), and her son Jerry (1972). She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by son Gene Gushuliak (Virginia) of Winnipeg, daughter Gladys Tough (Rick) of Surrey; grandchildren, Marisa (Allan), Christie (Dave), Paula (Noel), Mike (Trina), Dave and Tracy (Alex); great-grandchildren, Megan, Harley, Brayden and Kayla. Lena also leaves behind her brother Mike Kostynyk (Nellie) of Steinbach; and was predeceased by sisters, Sophie, Doris; brothers, George, John, Nick, Bill, Theo, Steve. Lena was born in Arbakka, Manitoba, the daughter of Mike and Lasia (Woroniuk) Kostynyk. Following their marriage, they lived in Middlebro for 12 years, and moved to Winnipeg in 1952, where Lena worked along side Mike in their family-owned grocery business for 26 years, before retiring to Surrey in 1978. Lena will be remembered for her wonderful, vibrant personality that endeared her to all that met her. She was a very giving and thoughtful person who lived her life fully and remained young at heart right to the end. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We are truly blessed to have had such a wonderful person in our lives. Lena was passionate about cooking and loved to cook amazing meals for her family. In her younger years, she was also an accomplished seamstress and, since moving to British Columbia, she and Mike shared a keen interest in watching baseball, gardening, walking, travelling and spending time with their family. Our world was definitely a better place because of her and she will be in our hearts and thoughts forever. Her legacy will be left with the family she kept united with her love and open arms. No formal service by request. Lena's ashes will be laid to rest along side Mike's in a family plot in Arbakka, MB.
