PETER DIACHUN June 18, 1948 - March 12, 2008 Peacefully, with his family by his side, Peter passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Peter leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his loving wife Mavis and son Kurt, sister Anna, brother John (Anne) of Winnipeg and sister Mary Klimek (Joe) of Surrey, BC, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Anna and father Roman. Peter was born in Sarnia, ON on June 18, 1948 and spent his childhood living near Lockport and later the Cooks Creek area. He had many fond memories of life in the country and enjoyed returning regularly for visits. After settling in Winnipeg he worked for Canada Post for 23 years. Peter was a devoted husband and father and will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors and animals, especially Labrador Dogs. He enjoyed gardening, wine making, cooking and watching hockey and CFL football. He was a great conversationalist and loved social gatherings. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Eva Smil, Dr. Hugh Taylor, and Tracy at 7A West at St. Boniface Hospital, Dr. Ralph Wong, staff at CancerCare, Home Care and Palliative Care and staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and support. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) with Pastor Mark Doerksen officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter's memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation at 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON 1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice.
