Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS DAVIS On Thursday, March 13, 2008, Louis Davis came to rest in the loving arms of family at Victoria General Hospital. Lou, son of Letitia and Edwin Davis was born on July 4, 1915. Lou was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Edna, his parents, brother Ted and twin sister Frances. Left to cherish his 92 years of life are his six children, Brian (Barb), Clare (Elizabeth), Valerie (Ron), Sharon (Larry), Marilyn (Ray), Darlene (Jeff); grandchildren, Michael, Scott (Heather), Deanna, Brooklyn, Jackson, Mackenzie, Shaun (Alanna), Sherri (Kyle), Jason (Kathy), Jodi (Ryan), Jordy, Carly, Jesse, Tyler, Taylor, McClay; and great-grandchildren, Joey, Megan, Addison, Mya, Chase and Davis. Lou and Edna were married on August 31, 1941. After serving his country overseas in the Second World War, he returned home to begin his family. He became a proud and long-time employee of the newspaper industry, spending most of his career in the stereotype department at the Winnipeg Free Press. He took pleasure in many outdoor recreational activities including fishing, swimming, camping, walking, bike riding, golfing, lawn bowling and countless hours puttering in the yard, weaving his beautiful creeping vine through the frost-free fencing. A well-read man, Lou was a thinker, a planner, a master of crosswords, and an inventor with a creative genius that will forever be marveled over by those who knew him. He was a practical man who lived in a non-extravagant way. He fully understood that happiness comes from within, as expressed by the following poem which Lou kept on his dresser: Drinking from the Saucer We have never made a fortune, and we'll never make one now; But it really doesn't matter cause we're happy anyhow. As we go along our journey reaping better than we sowed, We're drinking from the saucer, cause our cup has overflowed. We don't have a lot of riches and sometimes the going's tough, But while we've friends to love us, we think we're rich enough. We'll just thank God for blessings His mercy has bestowed We're drinking from the saucer, cause our cup has overflowed. If God gives us strength and courage when the way is steep and rough, We'll not ask for other blessings, we're already blessed enough. May we never be too busy to help another's load, Then we'll be drinking from the saucer, cause our cup has overflowed. An announcement regarding the celebration of Lou's life to follow.
