Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJULIA MICHNEWYCH After a brief illness on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Holy Family Home, Julia Michnewych passed away at the age of 100 years. Julia was predeceased by her husband Marian on July 29, 2002, and her brothers Adrian (1951), Bohdan (1998) and Wolodymyr. She leaves to mourn family in Ukraine, Canada, United States and Brazil. Julia will be missed by many friends. Julia Iwanchuk Michnewych was born April 29, 1907 in Struciw, in the region of Ternopil. In 1914 her family immigrated to Austria. It was there that Julia completed her early schooling. In 1917 her family returned to Ukraine. In Ternopil she started her education to become a teacher and completed her studies in Brody. She taught in Wolyn until 1939. During the Russian and German occupation she was able to obtain a position as a principal in Wawarynciah, near Terbowlia. During the Second World War, she immigrated to Bavaria and lived there for five years. After the war, she continued her journey, this time across the ocean where she lived in Stanford, Connecticut for two years. In 1951, she moved to Winnipeg where she met and married her husband Marian. They were married for 51 years. Julia enjoyed reading and was always willing to discuss and share her knowledge on any topic. She wrote many articles for Ukrainian newspapers and journals. Julia was also involved with Zolotij Worota, a Seniors' Club at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, who meet regularly to discuss Ukrainian topics. She was a self taught painter and painted many landscapes from memories of her past. She loved music and particularly enjoyed opera. Many who knew her were always appreciative of her wonderful memory and her ability to describe her past in detail. She particularly enjoyed discussions regarding religion and would often engage in passionate dialogue. Julia was a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral for 57 years. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Vladimir and Olga, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. A special thank you to the staff of Holy Family Home who so lovingly took care of Julia.
