Charlie was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the St. James area attending Linwood School as a youth. He met his wife Maria at Morton Industries where they worked together and he went on to work with the T. Eaton Company in the carpenter shop prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943, during the Second World War. After the war, Charlie returned to Eaton's prior to starting his own cabinet making business called Arcade Industries. In 1962 he returned to Eaton's carpenter shop where he worked his way up to the position of Project Manager for the building and renovating of Eaton properties and later became Manager of the Plant Office until his retirement. Dad enjoyed music and he played the trumpet and piano. He joined the Winnipeg Grenadier Band as a trumpet player in his early teens and was a member of the band for many years. He also played at the German Canadian Club and the Belgium Canadian Club with the Joe Burghardt Band. Other interests included his love of travel which he and mom enjoyed throughout the world. Dad was involved with the Eaton's Retirement Club, the Eaton's Veteran Club and the St. Bede's Anglican Church. He enjoyed his daily crossword puzzles, the Sunday morning brunch with his family, dancing and woodworking projects. Those who knew Dad will forever miss him and cherish his memory. Thanks to friend's and neighbour's for all of your help, especially Art and Joyce who watched over and cared for Dad like he was family these past years.
