ISABEL WAWRUCK In the comfort of her home, with family at her side, Mom/Baba left us peacefully on March 18, 2008 to be reunited with the love of her life, Andy, who greeted her with open arms in the house of Our Lord. Mom demonstrated incredible inner strength, grace and dignity throughout her lengthy cancer journey; showing constant concern for her family and respect for her devoted medical teams. Her gentle way and generous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her children Debbie Margolis (Ron) and Brian Wawruck (Pat); her grandchildren Tammy Brant of Winnipeg (Debbie's daughter), Matthew Brant (Kerri) of Dryden (Debbie's son) and Candice Wawruck (friend Paul) of Winnipeg (Brian's daughter); her great-grandchildren Alex, Mackenzie and Andrew of Dryden (Baba's three constant sources of smiles); her sister Lena Munday (Bill) of Brandon; and her grand-puppies Sasha, Kibbles and Sargie. Isabel was predeceased by her huband of 48 years, Andy Wawruck in 2003, her sisters Olga Pich, Mary Pochinko and Rose Shwaluk, and her brothers Fred and Bill Derkacz. Mom was born in Dauphin then spent most of her life in St. Vital in Winnipeg, retiring after a rewarding career with Scotiabank. Her Ukrainian cooking and delightful baking were enjoyed at many family gatherings. In her healthier years, she was visible on the dance floor, and could often be heard singing Ukrainian and country tunes. As Mom's illness began to limit her energy, she enjoyed seeing her friends at South Beach and yelling Bingo! at her favourite community club Varsity View, in the close company of her best friend Hilda. Above all, Baba truly treasured her close bonds with three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and taught us all the simple values of love and respect. Her illness reinforced that each day is a blessing, and to live life to the fullest, creating lasting, positive memories. She was never one to complain or criticize; everyone enjoyed Mom's company and she came to be nicknamed and known by all as Lucy from I love Lucy . We are extremely grateful to Dr. Maxwell and Ann Anderson (oncology angels at Victoria Hospital), Dr. Hartley and WRHA's Palliative team, and especially Louise Dansereau, who held a very special place in Mom's heart, giving her comfort during daily nursing visits. To all who have visited and kept Mom in your prayers and thoughts, the family sends our hugs. Funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 4588 Roblin Blvd. at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25. Private interment will follow at the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum. Flowers are gratefully declined. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Isabel's memory may be made to the Victoria General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice. God Bless Lucy - you will live deep in our hearts forever. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
