GERALD WILLIAM GIESINGER On March 18, 2008, Gerry, a resident of Maple Cottage at Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC) in Portage la Prairie passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital, at the age of 64 with family by his side. Gerry was predeceased by his mother Madge Giesinger; his father Adam Giesinger and his brother Paul James. He is survived by his brother, Ron Giesinger (Claudette) from Los Angeles; sister Jean Van Walleghem (Dick) from Winnipeg; sister Carole Tilley (Peter) from Denver and brother Jim Giesinger from Toronto. He will be sadly missed especially on holidays by his Winnipeg nieces and nephews Barbara Van Walleghem (Scott Kitching) and Sydney, Richard Van Walleghem, Paul Van Walleghem, (Molly Buckley) and Rachel from Ottawa, Nancy Hudson (Tom), William and Claire. He will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Jackie Giesinger from Montreal and Julie-Ann, Paul Giesinger (Diana Fung) and James Paul, Los Angeles, Sue Mulhare (Frank), Los Angeles, and Regan Giesinger (Jordan) Toronto, Michael Giesinger (Ingrid) Toronto, Matthew Giesinger, Kingston, and Scott Tilley, Denver, Sarah Tilley, New York, Andrew Tilley, Denver. Gerry was born in Winnipeg December 10, 1943 and lived at home with his parents until he moved to MDC in Portage la Prairie in 1974. He went to St. Ignatius School and Gordon Bell School. Gerry will be sadly missed by the residents and staff at Maple Cottage who lovingly took care of him in every way. The family wishes to thank everyone at Maple and MDC for their attention and kindness. Gerry always looked forward to coming home on holidays but was very content to return to Maple Cottage until the next holiday. The family appreciates that he was able to have a life of his own. He enjoyed his work, reading, listening to music and his coffee breaks as well as the camaraderie with the staff and the other guys. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their help and thoughtful attention to Gerry and Jean and earlier in the year the staff at Victoria General Hospital. We also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Ross and the staff at Portage General Hospital for their care and for keeping in touch nearly every day. As well we thank Father Patrick Morand (St. Vital Church) and Father Gerry McDougall (St. Ignatius Church) for coming to the hospitals and administering the sacraments. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Aspen Worship Centre, Manitoba Developmental Centre, 840 - 3rd St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, with a viewing one half hour prior to the service. Interment will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
