STEVE SHYMKO It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Gigi, Steve Shymko, on March 23, 2008 with his family by his side, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, at the age of 78. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Shymko, in-laws John and Annie Wyryha, sister Sophie (Peter) Philipchuk, step-sister Martha (Charlie) Standiland, step-sister Annie (Leon) Stefiuk, step-sister Lena (Dave) Kowalchuk, and step-sister-in-law Kaye. Dad was born in Arnaud, Manitoba on December 28, 1929. His family later moved to Carey, Manitoba where they farmed until the late 1950s. He later met the love of his life, Helen Wyryha, at a family wedding. They married on November 7, 1959 and began their life together and were later blessed with three sons. Dad worked for Cowin Steel Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed fishing trips with his sons, loved helping his in-laws on their farm in Sarto and yearly travels with the family. Both dad and mom were passionate baseball fans. You could hear them cheering on their favourite team, the Blue Jays, from miles away. After dad's retirement many hours were spent in his yard gardening and woodworking. Throughout his many years dad never missed a family event and looked so forward to being part of his grandchildren's lives. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Helen, of 48 years, sons Terry (Kathy), Dennis (Natalie), Garry (Tammi), grandchildren Ryan, Amanda, Tyler, Taylor, Roman, Matthew, Abby and Kennedy and his granddogs Oscar and Shadow. He is also survived by step-brothers Mike and Nick (Hilda) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Church, 455 Douglas Avenue, with Father Canon Walter Klimchuk officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kenny Philipchuk, Albert Sorokowski, Brent Sorokowski, Maurice Wyryha, Peter Wyryha and Ernie Vosper. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 To Dad, his family was his world, his home was his castle! Vichnaya Pamyat!
