EDWARD JOSEPH BELANGER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Edward Joseph Belanger on March 23, 2008 at the Selkirk General Hospital with his family at his side. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of over 52 years, Lorraine, sons Marcel (Janet), Bernard (Dianne), Damian (Tina), his favourite daughter, Lorianne and his grandson, Austin. Also left to treasure his memories, are his sisters Harriet, Mariola, Margaret, Marie, and Merilda, sisters in law Alice and Mabel. Edward was predeceased by his sister Georgiana, brothers Charlie, Noel and George Jr., brothers in law Ron and Gerry. Edward was employed by the Manitoba Rolling Mills for over 46 years retiring as a senior analyst. He was a founding member of USWA Local 5442 and was active in the union until 1989. Edward had a multitude of passions, among them being his devotion to the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church. At the church, he wore many hats, most notably as an original advisory board member, choir director and Catechism coordinator. Edward also excelled at coaching kids in all kinds of sports. His foremost sport was the game of golf, which he played feverishly his entire life, passing his love for the game onto his sons. Upon his retirement, he also embarked in the game of curling. Edward was a proud RCAF and Army veteran. A long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 42, he will have the Honor Guard at his final post. Above all, Dad was revered and respected as a fair, dedicated, generous, and loving family man. He will continue on in our lives and in our hearts. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. N. Antonenko and the doctors and staff in Selkirk and at the Health Sciences Centre. A special heartfelt thanks to Clementine Olsen for her unbridled commitment, compassion and caring. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 28 at 10:30 am at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 269 Jemima Street, Selkirk. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 9Z9 or Epilepsy MB., 301-309 Hargrave Ave, Winnipeg, MB.
