Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLAWRENCE MELVILLE LALIBERTE (C.D.) September 25, 1923 - March 20, 2008 On Thursday March 20, 2008 our beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Papa passed away at Concordia Hospital. Dad is survived by his dearly loved wife of 62 years, Stephanie (Brownie), his much loved sons, Allan (Sandy), Glenn (Heather) and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Riley (Amanda), Cara, Kristel, Kelsey, and Shelby. Born on the family homestead north of San Clara in the Duck Mountain region, Dad worked very hard on the family farm. He even led a full team of horses at the young age of 16. In 1941 he joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders to help in the war effort, however, didn't disclose the fact he was only 17 at the time. Dad fought from Normandy through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was wounded at Caen, France during a night operation in 1944 but reunited with his regiment on the march through Europe. Dad's military career was astounding winning many medals for his heroic efforts. Dad received many honours including the Wound Stripe, the 1939 - 1945 Star, the France Germany Star, the Defence Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939 - 1945, the Normandy Star, the Commemorative Medal, the Dutch Medal of Remembrance and the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD). Dad was a dedicated Canadian soldier and proud to serve his country. Following the war, Dad and Mum were married on August 22, 1945. They settled in Elmwood where they raised their two sons. Dad worked at Manitoba Bridge and Engineering until his retirement. Dad was very proud to be a Queen's Own Cameron Highlander and has been a celebrated member to this day at the Minto Armoury. He was a long time member of the Canadian Legion (Elmwood) Branch and on Remembrance Day received his 50+ pin for 53 years of service at the legion. The Manitoba Métis Federation is celebrating Sergeant L. M. LaLiberté (C.D.) with an honour wall. He was one of the founding members of St. Gerard's Parish. Dad dedicated himself to the building of his church. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and he was amazing at both. The walls of his home are filled with Master anglers, certificates and trophies galore! Dad was a colourful, fun loving character who will be greatly missed by his family and our friends. Service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with interment to follow. Pallbearers will be Gerry Zalusky, John Menza, Greg Johnson, Rick Boux, Alan Karpiak and Lloyd Vermeylen. The family would like to thank the wonderful, caring nurses at Concordia Hospital, especially Frances and Francine. Thank you also to Dr. Harris and Dr. Milner who have taken good care of Dad. The family would also like to thank Tu Dao, the pharmacist who assisted Dad over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Verendrye Game and Fish Association, P.O. Box 33, Norwood Grove, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2H 3B6. God Bless you Dad for being so wonderful! We will miss you always! GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. - 982-7550
