HAROLD RANGVALD PAULSEN Harold Rangvald Paulsen of Erickson passed away at the Erickson Health Centre on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Harry was the son of Alina and Peter Paulsen, born on the family farm, outside Erickson, on February 2, 1914. He attended school in Erickson and upon completion went to work on the family farm. In 1936, along with brother, Ludwig and friend Merrill Lee, Harry headed to Flin Flon and worked the commercial fishery in the winter and at a fishing resort in the summer. Stricken with arthritis, Harry returned home to recuperate in 1939. In the summers of 1940 and 1941, Harry worked in Riding Mountain National Park. He began work in the municipal office of the R.M. of Clanwilliam in 1941, and in 1945 assumed the position of Secretary-Treasurer of the R.M., which he held until his retirement in 1979. Harry also assumed other duties including Secretary-Treasurer of the Village of Erickson in 1952, Secretary-Treasurer of Erickson Consolidated School District from 1947 to 1967, as well as issuer of Drivers Licenses and his own general insurance agency. He married Alma Scheibe on September 18, 1948 at Almie's home church, Fredensthal near Ridgeville, Manitoba. Harry and Almie resided their entire married life in Erickson. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Eugene Harold and Daidre Anne. Harry was very active in the community. He joined the Erickson Lions Club in 1957. He recently received his 50 year Charter Service Award. Harry was active in both Bethel and Erickson Lutheran Churches. He was also secretary-treasurer of the Erickson Chamber of Commerce for 21 years. Harry enjoyed the game of golf, taking it up in the mid 1940's and continuing to play regularly until he was 89 years of age. He proudly displayed his hole-in-one trophy. After his retirement, Harry and Almie spent three months in Texas every winter for 19 years and developed many lasting friendships. Harry was predeceased by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters. Harry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Almie, son Gene, daughter Daidre Glasgow (Glen) and his three grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kristian, and Kurt, sisters-in-law, Mae and Elvie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and the many friends developed over his lifetime. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Erickson Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Tiefenbach officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Lutheran Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henry Wikdabe, Reg Nylen, Barry Paulsen, Leonard Schultz, Jim Nylen, and Mervin Hall. Friends, who wish, may make a donation in memory of Harry to Bethel Lutheran Society Inc. or Erickson Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
