Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN EVA (PRUS) MATIATION Jean Eva (Prus) Matiation of Shoal Lake, Manitoba died peacefully on April 1, 2008, after struggling valiantly with Alzheimer's for the last several years. Born on April 1, 1922, in Horod, Manitoba, Jean had just turned 86. Every now and then, we have the pleasure and the honour to know first hand the serenity and love of a gentle, modest, caring person who touches the hearts of almost everyone that person meets. Such was the case for Jean Eva. She was someone who loved people and someone who so often put others before herself. Growing up in a large family on a small, rocky farm in an isolated part of rural Manitoba, Jean knew what it was to face adversity from a very young age. Still, she was a happy person, a warm, generous individual, someone always willing to share what she had with others. Jean married Charles Prus, with whom she had three children, Robert, Anton Dewayne, and Wendy Charlene. Jean later married Michael Matiation (deceased 2006). Although her personal circumstances were far from easy during much of her life, Jean remained extremely close to her family and friends throughout her life. As someone who found fortitude in her religion throughout the difficult times, she adapted graciously to the situations in which she found herself. Jean loved flowers and gardening along with light, happy music and dancing - as long as her memory served her. Still, after a long period of unavoidable suffering, it is good that her soul is now at rest. We are extremely grateful for all that she has given. And, yes, we will miss her immensely! A very warm, affectionate, and devoted mother, Jean is survived by her son Robert and her daughter Wendy, along with her grandchildren Robin, Marshall, and Jordan and her great-grandchildren Jonathan and Kaitlin. We would like to thank the staff at the Morley House in Shoal Lake for watching over our mother at a time when she was unable to care for herself. Instead of flowers, we ask that anyone who may care to do so make a contribution to the Alzheimer's Society. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church, Shoal Lake. Interment will follow in St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Oakburn. Prayers will be held at the church Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Father Michel Nault will officiate. Rae's Funeral Service of Shoal Lake and Erickson are in care of the arrangements (204) 759-2160.
