JOHN HENRY KENDEL Today marks the 93rd birthday of John Kendel, born in Elmwood, Winnipeg, on April 4, 1915, and passed away in Nanaimo, BC, on January 29, 2008. John was predeceased in 2007 by Mary (Sulkers), his beloved wife of 67 years. Also by siblings Laura Dey, Kate Poersch, Hettie Bell, Mina Hunter and Rudolph Kendel. Survived by daughters Joanne Nosella and Rosemary Mosby of BC and Maureen Sadang of Hawaii along with their families and many friends. John moved to Vancouver following the flood of 1950 and worked for more than 40 years as a publishers' representative, focusing mainly on the beauty industry. He was an intelligent man with a thirst for knowledge and understanding. Also a capable craftsman, building family homes in East Kildonan and three in West Vancouver. He and Mary retired to Langley, BC, where they enjoyed the summers and travelled south to California during the cold, wet months. He was an accomplished golfer and embraced jogging and healthful diet long before they became fashionable. John was active in the Lutheran Church throughout his whole life and as his light was growing dim, the memory failing, and his strength ebbing, his faith remained strong. We thank God for this man, for the riches he poured into our lives and for the privilege of calling him dad. Today he will be laid to rest next to his Mary. Until we meet again.
