Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN SARAH MCLAREN (nee MARTIN) With great sorrow we announce the passing of Joan Sarah McLaren nee Martin, on Sat. April 5, 2008. Joan is survived by her daughters, Dawn Eliens of Saskatoon, Wendy (Allan) Marshall of Sioux Lookout and her son Martin McLaren of Winnipeg. Her grandchildren Twyla (Alex) Oleksuk of Thunder Bay, Stan (Krista) Marshall of Sioux Lookout and Angus and Connor McLaren of Winnipeg, she is also survived by her great-grandchildren Kaitlin and Jaden Marshall of Sioux Lookout and Danielle and Ryan Oleksuk of Thunder Bay. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Stan McLaren, her parents Gerald and Charlotte Martin of Fort Frances and her brothers Reg, Ron, Ted, and Jerry and her sister Dolly. Mom was born September 24, 1923 and grew up in McIrvine Township just outside Fort Frances. She attended Fort Frances High School and shortly after graduating, she met Stan. They married and started raising their family just after the Second World War. They moved to Thunder Bay in 1960 and lived on Ibbetson St. in Port Arthur. Mom was very active in curling and bowling but her first priority was looking after her family as only a special Mom could. It didn't matter what the activity, from scrubbing floors, to doing dishes, to waxing the hardwood on our butts or with our stocking feet, Mom found a way to make it fun. Mom always liked fun. In 1971 they moved to Winnipeg where she made many new friends, kept old friends and built their new life. She lived in Winnipeg at Beacon Hill Lodge at the time of her passing. A special thank you to the staff at Beacon Hill for the wonderful care they gave to both Mom and Dad. It was more than good care, it was caring. Thank you all so much. Memorial Service will be held at Transcona Funeral Chapel Tuesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m., 1800 Day St. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
