Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEARLE GARTH METCALFE May 25, 1922 - April 3, 2008 Peacefully at the Grace Hospital on April 3, 2008 Garth passed away with his family at his side. Garth Metcalfe touched many lives with his compassion and his humour. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father and grandfather, as well as a trusted friend who opened his door to all. It was common for Garth to cook three chickens on Sundays just in case someone dropped in. Garth served and was decorated with the DFC during the Second World War. After the war, he graduated from the University of Manitoba. He worked at the TB Sanatorium, Western Grocers, MGEA and Greater Winnipeg Gas. Garth is predeceased by his father William; mother Clara; Aunt Mildred Boyle; sister Ethelwyn; brothers, Ken and Gerald, and his sister-in-law Gladys. His memory lives on in his beloved wife Kay (nee Arnason); his daughters, Kerry, Wendy (Marv Snider), Nancy and Jill (Daryl Hooke), his grandchildren, Alexa and Ben Hooke; sister Peggy (Arnie Staerkle) and brother-in-law Jon Arnason, many nieces and nephews, plus a multitude of friends who have become family. His family would like to recognize and thank the wonderful staff of 5 North at the Grace Hospital, who genuinely cared for him and worked so hard to make his final days comfortable. And, to all of our friends who provided so much support without being asked, thank you! At Garth's request, there will be no service but Garth will be remembered at a celebration of his life, on Saturday, July 19, 2008. Donations in Garth's name may be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba, the Lupus Society of Manitoba or the Grace Hospital Foundation. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Chapel Lawn 885 - 9715
