JAMES MELDRUM June 20, 1919 - March 28, 2008 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of James Meldrum on March 28, 2008, at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 88 years. Jim was predeceased by his wife Mary. Left to cherish his memory are his grandson Jim (Bernadine) Erickson, daughter Delores Meldrum (Bill), sister-in-law Florence (Don) Radcliffe, and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Jim was a wonderful and loving grandfather and will be sadly missed. Jim joined the Air Force at the age of 16 and was based throughout Canada in such places as Arnprior and Charlottetown. After returning to Winnipeg in his mid 20s he began to work for Modern Laundry for a brief period then on to Hudson Bay Wholesale as a salesman. It was while calling at the OKUM Inn restaurant that he met Mary (Nana) and began a relationship that lead to a marriage of 55 years. While not operating the two restaurants, they enjoyed many weekends at the cottage in Brereton Lake. Together they opened the little Edmonton Food Bar and then the Free Press Coffee Bar and then the new Edmonton Food Bar. After many years of success they took an early retirement. But it wasn't for long as the lure of being with customers called them back to run the St. Boniface Golf Club food and beverage service for two years. They then owned and operated Caddy Lake Lodge for a few years getting back to the Whiteshell area they loved. Finally the retired into St. Anne, Manitoba and wintered for years in Fort Meyers, Florida and then McCallum, Texas at the Canyon Lake Resort. Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Ave. at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. We will always cherish our times on Brereton Lake, Jimmy. Funeral Arrangements In Care Of: WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVENUE (AT BOND) 224-1525
