Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARY ERNEST FERRIS It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Gary Ernest Ferris at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, April 26, 2008. Gary passed away at the age of 75, in the loving arms and comfort of his family at his side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Ollie, daughter Lorelei Pattle (Kevin), his son Renwick (Corinne), granddaughter Keely Pattle, sisters, Audrey Rothwell and Donna Jupp (Ritchie), and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was predeceased by his father John Ernest Oliver, his mother Margaret Muriel (Fraser), his brother Calvin, and brother-in-law James Rothwell. Gary was born on October 12, 1932 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba where he spent his childhood. He moved to Winnipeg where he was employed by Canada Safeway from 1952 until his retirement in 1992. Gary was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus and was very involved in managing the parish bingo hall and seniors' home until his illness. Gary will be remembered as a courageous, inspiring, loveable and generous person to all who had the opportunity of knowing him. People were drawn to him because of his kind and gentle heart and his loving personality. He had an unmistakable wittiness about him and always had a joke just to receive a smile. His braveness surpassed any imaginable barrier and throughout his illness he maintained a constant positive attitude until he took his last breath to be in the Kingdom of God. It was Gary's request to have a private family service officiated by Father Michael Krochak which took place on April 29, 2008 at Green Acres. The family extends their thanks to Father Michael Krochak and Fathers John Sianchuk, Peter Chorney, Tataras Kowch and Sisters Louise and Pat who visited him at the hospital. The family would also like to thank the staff on the sixth floor (GH) of the Health Sciences Centre for their help during Gary's time there. Special thanks to Nick Knysh (Knysh Funeral Chapel) for his help and comfort to the family. Finally, thanks to all those people who sent flowers, cards, gifts and showed support in countless other ways. Our Gary, Dad and Gigi (grandpa) you will be tremendously missed but always with us in our heart, mind and soul. In memory of Gary, donations may be made to: Welcome Home Mission of St. Alphonsus, 188 Euclid Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 2X4 or St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 100 Yale Ave. East, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2C 0H8. Rest in Peace - Vichnaya Pamyat

August 18,2018: I am 68 years old and for some unknown reason I thought of Gary today...in that, for like the 10th time in my life I thought of him and THIS time remembered his name, it just popped into my mind. Gary hired me back in 1965, when he was 32 and I was 14 years old. I worked at his Academy Road Safeway, P/T after school, 1965 /66. He was a gemstone, a kind and intelligent man a and real professional. I was a lucky guy to have him as my boss. I knew there was a chance, that when I did a search, that I would find that he had moved on but I just had to google his name that for some reason, suddenly remembered; he also had an assistant manager at that time that was a gem too. So, glad that he had family, kids and grandkids, as I am sure the fruit would not fall far from the tree. - Posted by: Craig Simmie (Former employee) on: Aug 16, 2018
