FRITZ BERNHARD (BEN) SCHRODT It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Fritz Bernhard (Ben) Schrodt, aged 81 years, at the Concordia Hospital on Saturday, May 17, 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Katharine (Kate), daughter Edeltraut (Klaus) and grandson Christopher (Leah) of Toronto. Ben was predeceased by his son Leonhard, father Friedrich, mother Luise, sister Wilma and brothers, Willi and Sonni. Dad and his family immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1956 and he found work immediately at Western Tools Industry, where he stayed until 1975 and then began to work at Parr Metal Fabricators from where he retired in 1992. Thanks to Dan for all his support throughout the years. Two of Ben's favourite pastimes were 10 Pin Bowling and the many summers at Camp Neustadt, where he was well known for his spectacular display of begonias and beadwork; his generosity of time to always give a helping hand; and his kindness to children and animals. He also enjoyed many happy hours at the German Club where he displayed his love of dancing. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Duerksen and the staff on 3W for their kind and compassionate care. Thanks also especially to Frieda, to family members and many longtime friends and neighbours for their love and support. Ben will be greatly missed. He was a fantastic father and Opa. As per his request, cremation has taken place. Also, in keeping with Ben's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
