Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUBY THOMSON PENMAN (nee WALKER) It is with much sorrow the family of Ruby Thomson Penman (nee Walker) announce her passing on Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Grace Hospital. Ruby was a woman of strength and gentleness. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Ruby's warmth and tender love will be missed by children, Rob (Laura), Anne and Scott (Lorraine); grand-children, Allison (Cory Brown), Diana (Chris Vander Aa), Michael, Jill, Holly, Steven and Elisabeth; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Abigail and Ryan. Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband Alexander (Sandy) and sister Pat. Born in Inverurie, Scotland and raised in war-time Aberdeen, Ruby immigrated to Canada in 1951. She worked as a legal secretary, met the love of her life (and fellow Scot) Sandy, settled in Winnipeg and cherished 50 years of life and love together. Devotion and respect for each other were the foundation of their shared values and apparent to all those who knew them. Despite some health challenges as a young mother, Ruby led a rich and full life of raising a family and further enjoying the growth of the family into the next generation. She was a long time member of Westworth United Church. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was an active volunteer with a variety of organizations including Meals on Wheels, Engineers Wives, Westworth United Church, Laura Secord School and the Age and Opportunity Bureau. She was an accomplished pianist and loved classical music as well as her regular attendance at the Winnipeg Symphony. Proud of their Scottish heritage Ruby and Sandy cherished their travels back to the old country, reacquainting with friends and family. As proud Canadians this country was the land of opportunity, but their Scottish pride was contagious and will be carried forward with fond memories. Forever gracious, she was blessed with a broad circle of dear friends. In the past year Ruby was welcomed into the Wellington, engaging in new friendships and activities that she truly enjoyed. Celebration of Ruby's life was held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Westworth United Church. Donations in Ruby's memory can be made to Westworth United Church Memorial Fund, 1750 Grosvenor, Winnipeg, MB R3N 0H9, or a charity of one's choice. Rob, Anne, Scott and families: my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time. "Aunt" Ruby was a dear, kind person and one of my mother's best friends for many, many years. I have fond memories of listening to her play Flight of the Bumblebees on her piano and of making us yummy snacks when we would visit your home on Borebank. She kept in touch with me over the years which I so appreciate. My sincere sympathy to all of you. Aynsley Anderson (Watters) - Posted by: Aynsley Anderson (Friend) on: May 27, 2008
