SAM LAI On May 25, 2008 at the age of 66, Sam passed away into the hands of his heavenly Father. Sam is survived by his sisters Sheila (Tony Fung), Iris, and Amy (Edward Wong). Affectionately known as Uncle Sam , he is sadly missed by his family, relatives, and many friends here and around the world. Sam was born in Hong Kong and came to Winnipeg in 1960, graduated from the University of Manitoba and worked as a teacher. When he was 23, he was involved in a horrific car accident that left him a quadriplegic. Despite his physical limitations, Sam fought through many challenges over the years and he was a vibrant member of the Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church community. Sam had a sharp mind. He loved to work on the internet, write and read. His perseverance and faith were a great example and encouragement to people around him. Even in this last four months when Sam had to be cared for in ICU, Sam persevered beyond anyone's expectations. Special thanks to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, Victoria and Seven Oak Hospitals. Sam's Memorial Service will be held at the Winnipeg Chinese Alliance Church (261 Colony St.) on Saturday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m.
