SMITH February 13, 1915 - July 8, 2008 The family of Gladys Evangeline Smith announces her peaceful passing on July 8, 2008 with profound sadness. She is survived by her sister Iva Sanderson and her brother Everette (Shirley) Cowan, her son Raymond (Val), daughters Marilyn (Tony) and Luella (Jim) and by several beloved nephews, a niece, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Harvey and by her brother Stewart Cowan (Enid). After a lengthy teaching career in Winnipeg, Gladys wrote Forty Nights to Freedom and numerous articles for newspapers and magazines. Gladys was an avid traveler and photographer. Her Christian faith was a source of strength to her. The family extends its gratitude to the staff of the 5th Floor, Grace Hospital, for their exceptional care and compassion. Flowers gratefully declined.
