BYRON FENTON February 8, 1917 - July 24, 2008 It is with incredible sadness that we said good-bye to Byron, in his 92nd year. Missing him are his wife Barbara; children, Kimberly Marr, Kelly Hamill (Fraser Putnam), David Hamill (Joanne); grandchildren, Stephen (Minal), Amy (boyfriend Chris), Tabitha, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Kira, Faith and Hope, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan. Byron was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and later moved to Saskatoon where he began his illustrious career with Tees Persse Ltd. Joining the company as a stenographer in 1936, he retired as President and CEO in 1982, remaining as Chairman of the Board until 1984. He was a Past President and Director of the Alberta Food Brokers Association and a Director of Thomas E. Paterson Ltd. After being widowed and retiring from his successful career, Byron found new joys in life when he married a wife, three children and a grandchild. Over the next 25 years, his instant family grew, as did his heart. A favourite napping place for all the grandchildren was his tummy. Along with Gram, Grandpa (aka Boppy and Bop), was a dedicated supporter at his grandchildren's concerts, recitals and sporting events. He always had the biggest smiles for the little short pants . His appreciation of music began when he was 16 years old singing in the church choir, which he continued to do for most of his life. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing basketball, curling, cross-country skiing and speed skating. His love of golf began when he was 12 years old in Saskatoon where he caddied and learned to play. At the age of 70, after 58 years of golfing, he had three hole-in-ones within six weeks. His later years were spent at St. Charles Country Club where he played until he was 89. We would like to express our most sincere appreciation to the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their compassion and kindness, and the high quality of care they gave to Byron, and to his room mate Jake, who always looked out for Byron. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Albert Mallet for his years of friendship and his devoted visits to The Senator . A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 203 - 290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 2N8.

  • Barb -- I never met Byron, but I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy in your loss. You were a great friend of June's when you were together on the MLGA council and I want you know that I understand your loss, having gone through it myself three years ago. My sincere sympathy goes to you and your family -- Ralph Bagley - Posted by: Ralph Bagley (Acquaintance) on: Jul 27, 2008
