ANNEMARIE ROMPPEL 1928 - 2008 Annemarie Romppel was reunited with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 1, 2008 at the age of 80 after a lengthy battle with diabetes and kidney failure. She was predeceased by her husband Helmut Romppel in 1999 and her daughter Bettina in 1983 and is survived by her brother Paul Esslinger in Germany; daughter Sylvia Saunders (David) and son Mark Romppel. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley, Michael (Fabiola) and Kristina Saunders of Ottawa. Annemarie was born in the town of Alt Posttal in the Romanian province of Bessarabia on January 7, 1928 and immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1955. She was a devoted mother to her children and enjoyed baking, sewing and gardening. Over the years, our family was regularly treated to her delicious German baking, including her trademark Black Forest cakes. Her grandchildren also loved her homemade soups. Annemarie was also active in her church and was a member of the German Society of Winnipeg. A special thanks is given to Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Rigatto and all the nurses of the Seven Oaks Hemodialysis Unit for the excellent care they provided to Annemarie while she was a patient there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Annemarie's memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 452 Dover Court Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3Y 1G4. The funeral service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Avenue West at 2:00 p.m. on August 6, 2008 with Pastor Richard Beinert officiating. Interment will follow the service at Transcona Cemetery. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
