SR. MARY DOLORES SCHROEDER Registered Nurse, F. D. L. S Sr. Mary Dolores Schroeder passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Women's Hospital, after a short illness. Remaining to forever cherish Sr. Dolores' memory are her brother, Greg (Mary) Schroeder; sisters, Bernie (Ford) Bergwall, Kay (Leo) Schultz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Greg and Josephine Schroeder, and brother-in-law, Ford Bergall. Dolores was born in Craik, Saskatchewan on October 11, 1930. In 1942 the family moved to the Talbot District in Alberta. Sr. Dolores attended various schools, ending in Castor, Alberta, where she met Les Filles de la Sagesse (Daughters of Wisdom). She entered the Congregation where she made her first profession on August 2, 1950. She was given the name Sr. Mary Dolores of the Cross. Sr. Dolores made her final vows in 1955, at the Motherhouse in St. Laurent, France. She served as a Counsellor on the Provincial Council of the West. She missioned in the North of Alberta, in Spirit River, Martin River, Grouard, Slave Lake, as well as in Leoville, Saskatchewan. After completing the Nursing course at Red Deer College in 1980, Sr. Dolores proudly graduated as an R. N. at the age of 50. She nursed in Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, in Castor, until she retired in 1995, at age 65. Following her retirement, Sr. Dolores took care of the sick sisters in Red Deer, providing health care, support and transportation for the sisters. She also did the accounting for her community. In 2003 she came to Winnipeg for a two-year sabbatical. And then became a permanent resident of Winnipeg. Sr. Dolores loved her apartment, her ministry at Taché Centre and other personal care for the aged. She was also loved by all the people who came in contact with her or worked with her. Prayers will be held on Thursday evening, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Emile's Roman Catholic Church, 556 St. Anne's Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 12 at 11:00 a.m., also in the Church. We are grateful for the wonderful nursing care she was given, and special thanks to Nurse Debra Arseneault.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I don’t know where this will go or who, if anyone, will see it. In the early ‘90s, I was a severely-concussed 5-year-old child (on account of a horse-riding accident) at the Our Lady of the Rosary hospital. I wasn’t permitted books or TV. The best part of my day was Sister Dolores. I wasn’t raised Catholic, but I was called to baptism. I was baptized and confirmed at the April vigil (April 3 of this year) and I took the name ‘Dolores’ in honour and memory of Sr. Dolores. I have been trying to determine where Sr. Dolores has been laid as I wish to bring her white lilies. If you can help, please email pamsy.courtney@gmail.com. May God bless you and keep you. - Posted by: Pamela (Patient ) on: Aug 12, 2021
