CHRISTINE SLIPETZ (nee GRECHEN) A Mother is the Heart of A Family! .. and now, with deepest sadness, we share the passing of Christine Slipetz (nee Grechen), on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Mom will ever be loved and missed by her daughter, Christine, and son-in-law Edward Los, as well as the treasures of her life.. beloved grandchild Ryan Los (Chantel) and great-grandchild Kayla. Corinna Nolette (Gerry) and daughter Jordan and Cheeka! Mom joins dad: Bruce and her dear mother: Millie, father: Alex, brother: William, niece: Marilyn, nephew: Richard, sisters-in-law: Elsie and Jay, brothers-in-law: Tony, Eugene, William and her poodle: Tasha, as well as numerous dear friends. She is survived by sisters-in-law: Jenny Grechen (William), Josephine Slipetz (William), niece: Willie Slipetz (Alfred) and her family Debra, Byron, nieces: Joanne, Shelsey, Pat of BC and Cindy and Cary Roess of Winnipeg. Mom enjoyed a special 'friendship' with her nieces.. Luci, Judy, Mitzi, and cousin Marie. Saturday evening telephone marathons and special occasions were always celebrated! Mom was born in Fernie, BC and came to live in Teulon, Manitoba as a child. Life was hard on the farm in 1920's yet Mom had fond memories of barn dances at Crabby Steve's after working all day long. Once in the city, she worked as a housekeeper and then at Manitoba Telephone System. She met the love of her life, my dad, on a blind date. They married in 1948 and welcomed their only child in 1950. Our family lived briefly in Washington, DC while dad served in the army. Once back in Canada, mom and dad bought their little house in West Kildonan. Mom loved being a homemaker - cooking, baking, gardening, and preparing Sunday dinners for all of us! She tended to her many flowers, and easily had the cleanest house anywhere. Her hands were never idle. Family, friends and hard work were mom's life! Mom and dad were thrilled to learn they would finally become grandparents in 1985. They loved babysitting, and always took Ryan along on their daily morning visits to the local coffee shops. He was the joy of their later years! After dad passed away, and mom's health declined, she moved into her apartment and was able to continue her independent lifestyle until she was hospitalized this past May. A sincere Thank You to my dear friends, Martha, Linda, and Chris for helping me on this long journey with my mother as well as to the dedicated nursing and health care staff (our guardian angels) on Unit 1, Level 3 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare if you so desire. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at a later date. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
