WILLIAM H. MILLS Celebration of Life Saturday, November 1, 2008 2:00 - 4:00 pm Kenora Curling Club 1939 - 2008 It is with shock and sadness that the family of William (Bill) Mills announce his sudden passing on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Bill leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years Sylvia, his sons Allan (Maija, Tallia, Sylvie) and Scott (Shari, Lillia), brother Norm (Betty), sister Marn, very special in-laws Morris (Rose), Roselyn (Pat), Joyce (Dennis), Hank (Cindi), Walter, Gerry (Cindy), their families and his numerous friends and hunting buddies throughout Canada and the USA. Bill was born and raised in Newmarket, Ontario. As a boy Bill would wear his church clothes beneath his trapping gear on Sundays to save time. His forestry career with the MNR brought him to Kenora in 1968 where he met the love of his life, Sylvia. There they made their home and raised their boys. He retired in 1991 and pursued his many hobbies with a vengeance. Bill loved anything to do with the outdoors. He never stopped planning the next hunt'. He was a passionate raconteur, sharing the stories of his hunting, fishing, trapping and other escapades with friends and family, whenever and wherever. He treasured his many social activities from the Masonic brotherhood to his years with Ducks Unlimited and the Kenora Trappers' Council. Over the years, Bill became an accomplished handyman and anyone who spent any time working alongside him can attest to his mastery of colourful prose. An avid sportsman, Bill was driven by a keen competitive instinct and a refusal to accept second place. From his days of running track at the University of Toronto he always maintained an athletic lifestyle. In his many years in Kenora he kept busy and active, participating in the gruelling Kinsmen boat races, trapping competitions, swimming, softball, curling and most recently, being a Gido. He frequently watched and sometimes enjoyed his Blue Jays, as well as the hapless Argonauts and Leafs. Bill deeply loved his family and was so proud of how Allan and Scott grew into such wonderful young men who each possessed such talent and skill in various areas and who had created their own special families. As his granddaughters grew older, Gido particularly enjoyed the good-natured teasing and banter they could provide. Bill will be remembered for living his life to the fullest and doing the things he loved best, right to his final moments. A Viewing will take place at Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2008 and a Celebration of Bill's Life will take place at the Kenora Curling Club on Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.mem.com BROWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION CENTRE ENTRUSTED WITH ARRANGEMENTS

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Uncle Bill was outgoing. As young as 2, I remember his enthusiasm (I shared) for outdoors. I remember his yellows Jake & Jill and play hide n seek in Grandad Mills corn with them. (as I did with my children and labradors). My kids called it Children of the Corn Hide n Seek.. I have a picture in the dining room of me wearing Uncle Bill’s hunt cap, riding a scooter around the table with Grandad watching. Uncle Bill also inspired my engineering mind with hours of Road Runner cartoons and discussing what went wrong. . I've passed that to my kids too.. My 3 year old daughter asked me “why coyote didn’t buy his stuff from someone else”. He would have loved that as much as I did. Watching college football on the weekends. I wish I had got to be inspired more by you but remember you (and your) created the foundation of my love and peace found in the outdoors. Thank you. Please be at peace - Posted by: Greg Grimshaw (uncle (marn’s eldest) ) on: Aug 31, 2022
