ELEANOR FINLAY (SCHMOK) Eleanor Finlay passed away peacefully at Souris Personal Care Home on December 2, 2008 at the age of 87. She was born September 11, 1921 in Neudorf, Saskatchewan and lived in Winnipeg and Vancouver before becoming a farm wife at Goodlands, as a newlywed. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Roy, five children, Ted (Joyce), Susan (Ray Boris), Walter (Debra), Nancy (Jim Hargreaves) and Valerie (Harold Renn), five grandchildren, Aaron (fiancée Nicole Yanchycki), Danielle and Jason Hargreaves, Annette (Gerard Tetrault), Steven (Eleanore) Renn, one great-grandchild, Louis Tetrault, two brothers, one sister and six sisters-in-law. Eleanor started her teaching career in a one room school house and finished it in Souris in June 1982. She was a diligent worker who enjoyed her family, kitchen, and gardens, but looked forward to seeing the world. She accompanied her mother to Australia and New Zealand in 1975. In 1995, Roy and Eleanor were privileged to attend the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands. Roy and Eleanor enjoyed touring North America, especially visiting family and friends and spent a decade of winters in Texas. One of her fondest memories was taking her whole family of 17 to Hawaii for Christmas in 1995. Eleanor's life celebration will be held at St. Paul's United Church in Souris on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. In Eleanor's memory, donations may be sent to St. Paul's United Church, Box 899, Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0, the Souris Personal Care Home Sunroom Fund, c/o A.R.H.A., Box 10, Souris, Manitoba R0K 2C0, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
