RUTH GROWITZ March 2, 1923 December 12, 2008 Peacefully, after a short illness Ruth Growitz went to be with her Lord on December 12, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Ruth was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and one sister. She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Werner (Herta) of Germany, and Arno (Dianne) of California, her nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Ruth was born in 1923 in Lyck, Prussia and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1951. Ruth worked as a nurse's aid and in a sewing factory until 1975. Ruth spent many years caring for her aging parents and later for her sister Sigrid who was in poor health. Although Ruth never married she loved children and was a special Aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Ruth loved to travel and in recent years made several trips to Germany and California to visit her brothers. She loved to laugh and always had a kind word to say. Ruth was a member of McDermot Avenue Baptist church for many years and for the last several years attended North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. Her strong faith in God sustained her during many difficult periods in her life. Ruth will be remembered for her gentle manner and her sunny smile. She will be dearly missed by her brothers and their families and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends, if they so desire, make a donation to a charity of their choice.
