GUSTAF KRISTJANSON

GUSTAF KRISTJANSON Passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on December 26, 2008. A resident of Surrey/White Rock area, and formerly of Mission, B.C., where he was active in square dancing, the Historical Society, and Lifetime Learning. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 to 1946, both aboard corvettes and in shore establishments. For many years, he was a radio drama producer with the C.B.C. in Winnipeg, taught for several years for Dept. of Indian Affairs in Bella, Bella, B.C. and retired as a professor of drama in education at the University of Manitoba. He was a lifetime member of ACTRA, having been active throughout his life in stage, radio and television. He was an excellent pianist and singer who continued these activities until his death. He travelled all over the world, with his last trip being to Egypt and Jordan in 2007. Gus was predeceased by Norah, his beloved wife of 60 years, in 2006, and his son, Ron, in October of 2008. Surviving him are his daughter, Sharon (Brian) Ziel, of Aptos, California, and Ron's widow, Remmawi Kristjanson, of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Also, he is survived by sisters, Lily Hearn, of Ashland, Oregon, and Una, with husband, David Cline, of White Rock, B.C. and Svava Seymour of White Rock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery Chapel, 14660-72nd Avenue, Surrey, B.C. Contributions may be made to Canadian Wildlife Federation, if desired.
