Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIAN MARTIN JOHNSTON 1928 - 2009 Peacefully with family by his side, Ian Johnston passed away at the Grace General Hospital on January 24, 2009, at the age of 81 years. Ian is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Shirley, sons Bruce (Brenda) and Colin (Pam), daughter Maureen (Anthony), grandchildren Garrett, Kevin and Courtney, brothers William (Nancy) and Ivan (Mary), sisters Norma (Jim) and Nina (Jack), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ian was born April 7, 1928 in Aberdeen, Scotland and came to Canada in 1953. After one year in Toronto, he moved to Winnipeg and began working at Eaton's. He retired in 1989 after 35 years of service. As a sports enthusiast, he followed many sports and was never afraid to try a new sport. Ian taught himself to skate at the tender age of 30 and soon became involved in coaching boys' hockey. Each year Ian planned a summer camping trip for his family and in his retirement years enjoyed many trips to Europe and warmer climates with his wife. A memorial will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Ian's name to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, P.O. Box 2598 Stn.
