ELSIE FLORENCE OSTEPCHUK (COATES) March 9, 1919 - February 2, 2009 Elsie (Nanny) passed away with her daughters at her side on February 2, 2009. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Paulette Cook, Linda (Mervin) McEwen. Her six grandchildren, Micheal (Carrie) Cook, David (Valerie) Cook, Tina (Brian) Webber, Theresa (Alex) McEwen, Sherry (Herrick) Einarsson, Mai-Lynn McEwen. Her eight great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Her brother Percy and sister-in-law Silvia Coates of England and all her relatives in England. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Stephan Ostepchuk; her parents, Gilbert and Daisy Coates; brother Gilbert Coat and sister Daisy and brother-in-law Aruther Belton of England. Elsie was in the Royal Air Force in the Second World War where she met her future husband Stephan Ostepchuk. They were married on July 15, 1945. Elsie was a English war bride and made the journey to Canada by ship and train where they made their home on the farm in Roche Pircee, SK. They lived there till 1990 when they moved to Winnipeg to be with family. Elsie then moved to Drayton Valley, AB in the summer of 2006 with family. Elsie's (Nanny) passion for cooking and making cookies was enjoyed by all and she loved gardening and farm work, her knitting was and is enjoyed by the family, she had a love for pigs and everything with pigs on it, she enjoyed drives in the countryside looking for deer, boat rides and fishing for the big one. She also loved Elvis Presley music and the Royal family of England. She loved hockey games that she went to or on the radio, She loved the time she was able to spend with her family. Elsie was a member of the Canadian Legion and enjoyed the time spent there. Elsie was a hard worker and always there to lend a hand to help anyone that needed her. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Brocken and the staff at Continuing Care and Serenity House of Drayton Valley for the caring service. Thank you to the Town Country Funeral Home in Evansburg, AB and the Voyage Funeral Home in Winnipeg, MB. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Elsie's life will be held on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Voyage Funeral Home on Hespeler Avenue and Henderson Hwy. Luncheon to follow. Private family burial at Brookside Cemetery where she will be put to rest with her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
