NORMAN WILLIAM DUVELL Norman (Stormin' Norman) William Duvell passed away suddenly Tuesday, February 16 at the age of 81 years. Norm was pre-deceased by his father William and his mother Lena. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Norm was born in Winnipeg's North End, May 21, 1927. He enjoyed working with his hands and helped his father build their family home on Arlington Street. Norm attended Isaac Newton High School and was a member of the school's basketball and track and field teams. He went on to the University of Manitoba majoring in contract bridge. He left the U of M to take a job in Winnipeg's grain business with the British trading company - Raleigh Brothers. Following Raleigh Brothers, Norm was employed as a cash grain broker by Monroe Grain, eventually taking over the business. During his time as a broker Norm enjoyed hosting his friends and business associates on his boat The Vagabond , which he personally refurbished and maintained with his son, Randy. Norm was an avid sports fan and especially fond of Formula 1 racing. During the 1980's Norm qualified for both Canadian and U.S. motor racing licenses and spent his weekends with his good friend Brian Settee racing his Mugan-powered Honda at Gimli and in the U.S. Midwest. Norm had strong convictions and could always be counted on to inspire a lively discussion regardless of the topic. He had a zest for life and lived it to its fullest right into his 80s. Active, even in retirement, Norm was currently employed in the photo department at the Real Canadian Superstore at Grant and Kenaston. Norm is survived by his son Randy, daughter-in-law Beverly and daughter Tamara. Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Norm's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 0S6.
