CLARA FINEBLIT (BROOKS) A
Date of Passing: Feb 28, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCLARA FINEBLIT (BROOKS) A life well lived Clara was a loving parent, dedicated volunteer, loyal supportive friend and spouse and a beloved Baba. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the age of 101. She always said you are as young as you feel and she always felt like she was 29. She was only a teenager when she courageously emigrated, on her own, from Russia in the 1920s. She did this to gain her father's freedom from a Siberian prison camp. Within a year she was able to sponsor him and the rest of her family (the Michaikins) into Canada. Here in Winnipeg she met and married Sam Fineblit. Together they raised their three children, Louise Gillman (Arthur), Shirley Fineblit, and Allan Fineblit (Judy Elliott). Sam died in 1969 and 10 years later she married Max Brooks. Clara was an active volunteer, dedicating her amazing talent and energy to countless community organizations and charities. She valued her friends, baked wonderful nothings, and loved jokes. She was well read and widely travelled. In Winnipeg and in her winter home in Deerfield Beach, Florida, she was known for her performances, entertaining live audiences with songs, recitations and skits in several languages. Perhaps her greatest pleasure was in caring for her five grandchildren Avery Gillman, Susan Kayesar (Tal), and Emma, Sam and Josh Fineblit. She dearly loved her 4 great grandchildren, Eitan, Shaked, Hadassah and Ilan Kayesar. Clara was predeceased by her sisters Mona Slotin and Fannie Grichanik and her brother Percy Michaikin. She is survived by her sister Rose Pascal in Toronto. Thanks to her caregiver and friend Doreen Natividad for making Clara's last years full, happy and content. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the fund in her name at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, phone (204) 477-7525 or the charity of your choice.
