MARIA (OMI) SKOBE March 24, 1923 - March 13, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria (Omi) Skobe at the St. Boniface Hospital on March 13, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish Maria are daughters Nevenka Gacnik (Mrek Zemla), Marjana Van Gils, Sonja Hanus and son Joe Gacnik (Sofia). Omi also leaves behind nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren in Canada and Slovenia. Brother Ferdo Pasaric (Gordana) from Zagreb, Croatia and her special friend Maria Gacnik and many other relatives in Slovenia. Omi was born March 24, 1923 in Zagreb, Croatia. As a young teenager she returned to her motherland Slovenia where she married and raised her four children till immigrating to Winnipeg in 1971. Omi worked at CWB for many years. She was a hardworking woman at work and home. She was also very giving, loving, and liked to entertain others. Her favourable time was socializing with family and friends, enjoying a good meal that she prepared (dumpling soup had to be on the menu) and playing cards, called Bunka. A special thanks to all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, homecare ladies for there excellent care of Omi, also we would like to thank all the family and friends who made Omi's life special. Respecting Omi's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Omi's life will be held on Monday March 16, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. In the Wheeler Funeral Chapel 211 Regent Avenue, West.
