BARBARA KATHRYN RIVEST June 4, 1942 - March 27, 2009 After a lengthy illness, Barbara passed away peacefully with Ken at her side on Friday, March 27. She will forever live on in the memory of Ken, her husband of 22 years, and her many close friends. She was predeceased by her mother Victoria Onuliak in 1986. Barbara was born in Winnipeg and lived for many years in St. Andrews and Souris, MB. Much of her working life was with United Grain Growers. After leaving UGG, she became involved in volunteer work. Her thoughtfulness and sense of commitment enriched the lives of her two seniors , Helen and Rose. Barb was a very special person whose life touched so many. She was loving and caring, outgoing and considerate, and always willing to help a friend. She had a great love of nature, shared by Ken. In their younger years, they camped, canoed, cycled and cross country skied. Time spent at Gwen and Den's cottage at Brereton Lake was always a highlight. Many special moments were also spent with their adopted families, Donalda and Stan, and later, Joan and Gerry. Special mention must also be made of lifelong friends, Mary Ann, Bev and Cheryl. Barb took pleasure in the simplest things, like seeing a new bird at their back yard feeder or watching the ducks and geese in St. Vital Park. She also liked to travel, whether it be to our west coast, a beach in Florida or just Grand Forks. Her pride and joy was Oliver, their (very spoiled) cat. The family wishes to thank her caregivers and friends, Helene, Jennifer and Norah, as well as the nursing staff at Victoria General Hospital Unit 2, for their kindness and concern. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would have wanted donations to be made to the Alzheimer Society MB, CancerCare MB, the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of one's own choosing. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Friday, April 3 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street) at 1:00 p.m. Don't grieve for me because I'm gone, just be happy for the moments we shared.
