Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ROY ALEXANDER FINES Jim unexpectedly passed away on May 8, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at the age of 60. Jim was predeceased by his son Ian in 1997 and his parents George and Mae Fines. He will be sadly missed by Laurel, his wife of 36 years; son Glenn (Jennifer), grandson Alexander; son Morgan (fiancé Norah); brother David (Sheryl); sister Judy Perkins (Brian); various nieces and nephews and his little dog Jewel. Born March 14, 1949 in Teulon to George and Mae Fines, Jim grew up in Winnipeg and attended the University of Manitoba. He graduated in 1972 as a Civil Engineer. In November of 1972, Jim married Laurel Willis in Invermay, SK and together they raised three terrific boys. Jim worked for the Manitoba Department of Highways for 37 years, starting in Leaf Rapids and Thompson, then moving to The Pas, where his sons were born. The family moved to Dauphin in 1982 and then Gimli in 1993 where he worked in the Arborg office until he retired on March 31, 2009. Jim was happiest when he was with his family and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, wood working, blues music and walking his little dog. Thank you to all the health care workers and paramedics at the Gimli Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre for the wonderful care and compassion shown at this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Wiebe and Jodi Sawatzky, RN from Transplant Manitoba Gift of Life. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 50-1st Avenue, Gimli, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gimli Healing Garden at Box 250, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
