BERNICE CHURCHER It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Bernice Churcher. Bernice died peacefully Sunday, May 24, with her family by her side at the Victoria General Hospital. Bernice will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter Barbara (Donn) Pirie. Also her grandchildren Donn (Ria) Pirie, Suzanne and Grant Pirie, Tim (Mary-Lene) Gelette, Nancy (Greg) Kearl, and Shari (Bill) Truax. Bernice is also survived by 10 great- grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband Grant, daughter Terry-Lynne, all her brothers and sisters, as well as her beloved little dog Daisy. Mom was born in Coalfax, SK. The eldest of eight children born to Harold and Ella Mitchell. Raised in Wawanesa, MB, Mom attended Brandon Normal School after which she began her teaching career. After her marriage to Grant in 1937 the couple moved to Winnipeg to raise their family. Bernice taught in the St. Vital school division for 25 years, a founding member of The Hens of Varennes! Bernice and Grant enjoyed 16 years of their retirement in Nanaimo, BC, returning to reside in St. Vital in 1989. One of Mom's greatest pleasures was the cottage at Oak Lake, MB, where she enjoyed many happy summers. An avid baker, mom took pleasure in keeping her grandchildren supplied with cookies and treats. The family would like to thank Mom's home care friends. Special thanks to Terry, Louise, Lois and Gayle who worked so hard to make her life comfortable. We would also like to extend our thanks to Dr. W. Heindenreich and Pauline for the wonderful care mom received for so many years. Thanks to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital ward 5 south for their tender care in her final days and to Mom's many visitors, who made those days bright. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomson In The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with Rev. Donna Joy officiating.
