ELEANOR JOYCE (JODY) FLYE
Born: Jan 08, 1929
Date of Passing: May 29, 2009
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELEANOR JOYCE (JODY) FLYE (nee McLachlan) January 8, 1929 - May 29, 2009 On Friday evening, as the sun slipped into the other side of day, surrounded by her husband Brian, daughter Tracey, son Jay, brother Glenn and loving friends, Jody's spirit lifted from her; a new star for the night sky. Jody's six-month battle with cancer was waged as a mission, with those things that have defined Jody in all aspects of her 80 years; an incredible heart and unflagging generosity. Her mission was simple: to prepare her family and friends for her leaving, to do so with grace and harmony, and to allow her own formidable will to finally let go. In her final hours, under the unparalleled care and luminous guidance of the team at Grey Nun's Palliative Care Unit 43, Jody achieved her wishes. Jody's legacy lives on in family, whether connected by blood or by heart, gathered from a youth that originated in a Winnipeg community of family and friends brought together by depression era necessity and solidified by loyalty and true caring, then later in life with Brian in Edmonton and raising a family of their own. Receiving the gifts of her two children, Tracey and Jay, then, from Jay and his wife Alison, a granddaughter, Kate, Jody learned to take from life all that she had so willingly and unceremoniously given; joy, dedication and a spirit of celebration that elevates pride from under sin. The lady could dance, and if you didn't like her dancing she could sing, and if you didn't like any of those things... you'd ask her to stay just because she made the daylight brighter. In lieu of flowers, Jody has requested that donations be made to the Grey Nun's Palliative Care Unit, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation-Cross Cancer Institute-Pediatric Unit, or Osteoporosis Canada-Alberta Chapter. It was with the deepest of sadness that we recently learned of Jody's untimely passing. Our minds wandered back to our years in Edmonton where we shared so many wonderful events. Of particular joy to us was the Christmas Eve visits when we shared the joy of the season into the wee hours of the morning. To Brian, Tracey and Jay we send our love and the hope that at this time they can share in the Great Comforter and the knowledge that Jody was indeed a classy lady and gave her all who came into her life. - Posted by: Barry and Pauline Stewart (Friend) on: Jun 19, 2009
