Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEE ANN CAROLINE SMALL October 15, 1957- June 3, 2009 On June 3, 2009, Lee Ann passed away in the presence of those she loved, who loved her so much in return. Wife of Brad, mother of Leslie, and Eric, daughter of Bob and Shirley Keighan of Calgary, sister of Donna (Don) Lamy of Calgary, sister of Jill Van Den Bossche of Calgary, sister of Jeff (Sheila) of Strathmore, aunt of Brett Van Den Bossche of Calgary, daughter-in-law of Eddie and Doreen Small of Gladstone, sister-in-law of Guy Small of Gladstone. Lee Ann was born on October 15, 1957 in Quebec City and grew up in Montreal where she made many life-long friends. In 1976 she moved with her family to Calgary where she dabbled in college and worked several jobs making even more friends. In 1980 she met the person who was to become her best friend and so began a whirlwind four year courtship which resulted in marriage to Brad in 1984. Brad had always wanted to return to his roots in Manitoba and Lee Ann willingly agreed to accompany him with only two conditions: A down-filled coat and central air. So in 1985 they moved to Winnipeg to raise a family and build a life together. Lee Ann appreciated the value of a loving parental influence on young children and so she chose to stay home with her kids for their first few years. She worked part-time at first, then seasonally, and she was just getting established in a full-time career at the Canada Revenue Agency when her illness was diagnosed. Lee Ann enjoyed travelling with her family and many trips were made all over Canada and the United States. The last trip to New York City in September was her favourite. The almost trip to Palm Springs to warm up at her parents' winter home was also a highlight. She and Brad were able to see Europe and had just begun a tradition of a winter sun spot vacation. With rare exception, Lee Ann never met a person she didn't like. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, and more likely then not, walk away with a new friend. She brought out the best in everyone. Celebration of Lee Ann's life will be held on Monday, June 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel 211 Regent Avenue, West. Thanks to everyone at Buhler Cancer Centre, Victoria Hospital, Riverview Health Centre and the palliative home care nurses for your kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cancer Care agency of your choice. Goodbye Lee Ann, Mom, sweetheart. We will love you and miss you forever. We knew LeeAnn from Camp Four Winds. She was one of my younger brother, Jim Gelsthorpe's,crowd. I can't remember ever seeing her without a smile. We were saddened to hear of her illness and the harrowing treatments she endured.
