Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWINNIFRED SOFIA GREENBERG (nee BARNETT) September 22, 1917 June 9, 2009 We sadly announce the passing of Winnifred Sofia Greenberg, (Winnie) in the early morning of June 9, 2009 at the Sharon Home, Weinberg Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her husband Ted, in October 1999 and by her brother Harris Barnett in 1994. Winnie leaves to mourn, her daughter Carla, son Louis and three grandchildren, Julien, Chanel and Harley Greenberg. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in- law, Sylvia Grant, Rita Hoffer, Sidney and Lucy Greenberg, Irvin and Gilda Greenberg and many nieces and nephews. Winnie grew up in Winnipeg's Jewish Orphanage. After completing training as a Nurse's Aid, she discovered that she had a natural talent for tailoring and commenced her career as a furrier. She was instrumental in organizing union participation for the fur industry in the late 1920's. She married Harry Aaron Greenberg, (aka Ted) in 1956 and was delighted that she was now part of a large family and enthusiastically took part in all family celebrations, taking her turn in sometimes hosting 30 plus people for dinner. Louis joined the family in 1962 followed by Carla in 1964, completing her family. Summers were a special time for Winnie, when she and Ted packed up the children and spent all of July and August at their cottage in Gimli. Winnie will always be lovingly remembered for her compassion and dedication to her family. She always put her family first and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. She had a good sense of humour and was the best friend, mother and teacher a child could want. Graveside services, officiated by Rabbi L. Landers will be held at 1:00 pm on June 12, 2009 at the Bnai Abraham Cemetery. The family gratefully acknowledges the kindness and compassion shown by the Sharon Home staff. Donations can be made to the Sharon Home Fund, 1 Falcon Ridge Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3Y 1V9.
