IRENE STEPHEN **SERVICE TIME DATE CORRECTION** Peacefully, in her sleep, following a lengthy illness, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on July 22, 2009 at the Victoria Hospital. She was born in St. Anne Des Chenes on January 30, 1918 and received her education at St. Anne's Convent in French and English. This gave her the opportunity to become the manager of the circulation department of the French paper La Liberté. Irene was predeceased by her husband Emil in 1984, her parents Joseph and Lucie Grouette, all 14 of her brothers and sisters and by her dear 20 year old granddaughter Sherri Gottfried in 1991. After the death of her husband, Irene moved to the Kiwanis where she enjoyed the company of good friends and good games of cribbage and canasta. She is survived by her son Al (Sonny) / Diane, daughter Marlene Gottfried (Bob), four grandchildren, David, Shaun (Alison), Curtis (Leanne), Jennifer (Dean) and five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Emily, Hannah, Alyssa and Grayson. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, 271 Hampton Street. Flowers respectfully declined, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Special thanks to the staff of Golden Door Geriatric Centre for the care Mom received over the last few years, and to the nurses at the Victoria Hospital who made her last days comfortable. Ever remembered, always loved. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery 1 Green Acres Lane, Springfield (204) 222-3241, Hwy #1 inside the Perimeter at Winnipeg Life stories may be shared at www.mem.com
