JACOBUS (JAKE) MEIJN August 21, 1934 July 26, 2009 Born in Amsterdam, Holland, Jake passed away with his loving family by his side at the Ste. Anne Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Clara and Siemon Meijn, he leaves to cherish his memory wife Jean of 50 years, sons Tony (Ginger) and Martin (Darlene), grandchildren Amber, Alex, Craig and Adrian. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Raymond (Barbara) and their son Ricky Coltman of Winnipeg, Steven (Vicky) Coltman and their children Nicola and James of Sheffield, England and mother-in-law Edith Coltman also of Sheffield, England. Jacobus served in the Royal Dutch Military as a Corporal in the tank Regiment. In 1955 after his service he moved to England where he met and married Jean Coltman on August 16, 1958. October 1969, with his family by his side they moved with brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Babs. Jake first landed in Gimli, Manitoba where he worked on a farmstead as he had been raised a farmer, in Holland. Over the next thirty plus years, Jake always tried to provide a better life for his family. As he performed many various jobs along the way from sales to small business owner, he made many friends. Among many residences from Winnipeg, La Broquerie, Falcon Lake and Emerson, Jake finally retired to his beloved property in Lorette in 2000. Jake enjoyed being outdoors, and visiting with family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Anne's Hospital, with special acknowledgement to the nursing staff at palliative care. A celebration of Jake's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint).
