FRANCESCA MARINEO (nee BUSCEMI) March 6, 1912 August 6, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Francesca. Peacefully, on August 6, 2009 she answered the call of the Heavenly Father at the young age of 97. Francesca was predeceased by her parents, sisters and brothers, husband Agatino and her grandchild Rick Marineo. She leaves to mourn her son Luciano Marineo (Bertha); daughters Lina (Nino Germinario), Antoinette (Josef Dohmen), Giuseppina (Mario Audino); grandchildren Mark, Johnny (Thea), Tony, Dorina, Danielle (Steve), Vincenzo (Edyta), Felicia, Diana (Rick); great-grandchildren Francesca, Lucia, Matteo, Rio, Elijah, Sélina, Milèna and Marcello; many nephews and nieces in Winnipeg, Italy, Belgium and South Africa. Francesca was born in Calascibetta (Enna, Sicily) on March 6, 1912. On February 15, 1936, she married the love her life, Agatino Marineo with whom she lived happily until his death on February 8, 1992. The family relocated to Belgium for five years and in 1958 emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Throughout her life, Francesca showed strong will and determination to constantly ameliorate the wellbeing of the family. Decisive and intuitive, she always knew what she wanted and worked diligently in the pursuit of her personal and collective objectives of the family. She enjoyed travelling and loved sharing her fond memories of her many trips to various parts of the world. Above all, she would make frequent nostalgic reference to her native Calascibetta where she was very well known and highly regarded. As an exceptional seamstress, she took particular pleasure in making the most beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren of whom she was enourmously proud. An avid reader and gregarious character, she kept herself well informed about events and circumstances affecting the many people she knew. The family wishes to thank all relatives and friends for their demonstrated affection and ongoing support, particularly niece Santina Lao and her daughter Silvana. Much appreciation goes to Dr. Salter Oliver and all the nurses (especially Monique) for their professional and compassionate care; they truly went beyond the call of duty. A heartfelt thank you also goes to Father Sam Argenziano, as well as the staff and residents of Villa Nova, especially Francesca's close friends who prayed the Rosary in her room almost every day. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m. with a public viewing at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, presided by Rev. Father Sam Argenziano.
