MICHAEL SMERCHYNSKI Michael passed away on August 19, 2009 at the age of 83 after a two-year battle with cancer. Mike was born on January 23, 1926, grew up in Medika, Manitoba and had 13 brothers and sisters. He married his honey, Malvina, in 1956 and they moved to Uranium City that same year where Mike worked in Gunnar Mines. In 1963 they moved back to Winnipeg and he worked at Dominion Bridge as a welder, retiring in 1991. Mike was a faithful member of St. Edward's Church. He sang in the choir for many years. He had a wonderful voice inherited by many family members. Mike is survived by his loving wife Malvina; two sons Glenn (Gail) and Rod (Brenda); daughter-in-law Heather; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Nick; sisters Nettie and Ann; sisters-in-law Lorraine and Verna; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; ten brothers and sisters and his youngest son Terence in 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 26 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church, 836 Arlington Street. Interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike's memory to Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care. R.I.P. 586-8044
