Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER OREST MARTYNIUK With great sadness we announce the passing of husband, father, grandfather, Peter Orest Martyniuk on September 9, 2009 at Deer Lodge Centre. Peter was predeceased by his parents William and Sophia, brothers Steve, Russell, and sisters, Stella and Jean. He is survived by his loving wife Verna of 45 years, children Barbara-Ann Dwyer (Ken), Bradley Martyniuk (Nadine), Michelle Tindall (David) and grandchildren Cohen Martyniuk and Kyla Tindall. He is also survived by brothers, Lawrence (Mary), Sam (Sylvia), Mike (Liz) and sisters, Mary (Tiny), Liz (Ed) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter was born in Meadowlands, MB on July 21, 1928. He came to Winnipeg in February, 1957 where he began his career as a baker with McGavins Foods. Peter met his loving wife Verna in June 1963 and enjoyed a whirlwind romance that led to an engagement four months later and marriage in June, 1964. They started their family in 1966 and he cherished his family life to the fullest with his children and grandchildren. During his 32 and one half years with McGavins he also developed his exceptional talent for decorating wedding cakes that helped create memories for many families. When he retired in 1989, he changed his career path and became a handyman, which turned out to be his true calling. He didn't see this as work but rather a passion for helping others. Peter took pride in his church membership at the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. He was a member of the finance committee and participated in several church fundraising events and used his past experience as a baker to coordinate the church perogy making brigade. Peter's pastimes included golfing, bowling, building wishing wells and other wood working projects. He also enjoyed meeting numerous friends for coffee and conversation. Peter loved and was loved by his family and his many friends and was respected by his peers. His humour and wonderful zest for life will be missed by everyone who knew him. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of the 3rd floor North at the Grace General Hospital for the compassion you showed during his time under your care. Donations may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Winnipeg or to the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
