Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL ISAAC (SHLOIMA) STALL It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Samuel I. Stall, with loving family by his side, on May 28, 2009, Erv Shavuot. Samuel was born on March 15, 1918 in Ozarow, Poland to Esther Rivah and Nachman Doovid Stall. He grew up in a traditional European Jewish family with siblings Tziporah, Yehoshua and Moshe Yankle. Victims of the Holocaust, all his immediate family, many uncles, aunts and cousins predeceased him. Samuel, having suffered the horrors of the Holocaust and several years of physical abuse, was liberated from Buchenwald Concentration Camp on May 5, 1945. He married the love of his life Lily in 1945 and she sadly predeceased him in 1982. After the Holocaust, Samuel and Lily began rebuilding their lives by relocating to Paris, France. In April 1949, with the assistance of their cousins the Stalls, they moved with their daughter Esther to Winnipeg. Once again they began the job of rebuilding their lives and happily expanded their family with the birth of son Norman. Samuel and Lily established a traditional Jewish home, open to all. That home continued to give him great comfort and pleasure until his death. Samuel was an excellent tailor and designer. He worked for Stall and Sons and Sterling Stall until his retirement at age 70. He enjoyed Jewish and Yiddish music and literature and was a loyal listener of The Yiddish Program. In his early years Samuel was involved in many Jewish organizations, including the Peretz Folk School, was a very strong supporter of the State of Israel and was a lifelong member of Rosh Pina (Etz Chayim) Synagogue. He was a story teller par excellent with an eye for detail and took great pleasure in sharing his recollections of years past. Most of all Samuel enjoyed spending time with family whether it was travel or celebrating Jewish life cycle events and holidays. He was an active participant in and was thrilled to celebrate the Bat and Bar Mitzvah's and weddings of his grandchildren. He was most delighted with the birth of his eight great-grandchildren, whom he affectionately called the great ones . He was the centre, heart and Patriarch of his growing family whom he considered his legacy to the Jewish Nation. Samuel will always be remembered as a wonderful, devoted and loving husband, father, Zaida, Great Zaida, cousin and friend. He was loyal, courageous, strong, honest, sincere, generous, tenacious, warm and kind and had the unique ability to find common ground with everyone he met and make them feel at ease and that they were special and important to him. He was a true Mench. Samuel is survived by his children Esther and Marvin Samphir and Norman and Julie Stall; grandchildren Joel and Naama Samphir, Daniel and Amy Samphir, Marni and Jonathan Halpern and Leah and Ariel Stall; and great-grandchildren Eytan, Liron and Adiv Samphir, Coby and Hayley Samphir and Leo, Sophie and Lily Halpern. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Samuels family and special friends. Funeral services were held at Etz Chayim Synagogue on June 1, 2009 with interment at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Norman Hechtenthal and Dr. David Meyrowitz for their care and to Rabbi Larry Lander a special thank you for his thoughtfulness and support. You were an inspiration to us all and we were so fortunate to have you for these many years. Loved by all, your passing leaves a void which will be hard to fill. You will occupy a special place in our hearts forever. Your legacy will keep your memory alive. Shalom .
