ALLAN KOVERZIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Koverzin: husband, father, brother, and son. After a long illness, Allan died peacefully on November 2, 2009 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Left to mourn are his wife, Janice, with whom he recently celebrated 21 years of marriage, his daughter, Kimberly and his son, Mark; his mother, Edith Koverzin, and brothers, Dennis and Raymond; his mother-in-law, Jean Dudar, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael Dudar and Joanne Peters. He will be sadly missed by members of both the Dudar and Koverzin families. Allan was born in Dauphin on March 4, 1957 and grew up on the family farm in Pine River. He attended Pine River School and Ethelbert High School and graduated from the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Engineering in 1978. He then completed his Master of Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 1982. Following his graduate degree, he was employed with Imperial Oil, the Manitoba Telephone System, and finally, the Yellow Pages Group. Family and friends were paramount in Allan's life. He was a loving and caring husband, and a proud and devoted dad who supported Kim and Mark in their many school, athletic, and social activities. He attended their volleyball, basketball, soccer and rugby games, their Ukrainian dance recitals, assisted with science fair projects, and helped them with their homework. Allan truly loved life at the family's Jessica Lake cottage, downhill skiing with Michael, Joanne, Kim and Mark, and especially, the chance to become a kid again, at Disney World. Earlier this year, in February, he found the strength to experience the wonders of Disney one last time, and that trip will always be a cherished memory for Janice, Kim, and Mark. The family would like to express its thanks to Allan's physician, Dr. John Mayba, the staff at CancerCare and of the Palliative Care Ward of St. Boniface General Hospital, and in particular, to Allan's oncologist, Dr. Ralph Wong, and his nurse, Kathy. All have provided dedicated, professional, and compassionate care. As well, thanks are extended to the many friends, family, and co-workers, who have shown such kindness and provided emotional and spiritual support. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church (965 Boyd Avenue). Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, also at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined.
