CHANTAL LEE JOLLY BAdmin, MMT, MTA, FAMI Chantal was a beautiful, intelligent, empathetic, loving person, who was adored and cherished by all. She passed away peacefully, at the age of 45, on November 13, 2009 surrounded by loving family, friends and music, after a valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother, Elin Jolly, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The world was blessed by Chantal's birth on March 2, 1964 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Introduced to swimming and music at the age of two, she showed a strong aptitude for both. Music became her greatest passion, enhanced by involvement with the Garden City music program. She would later earn awards and accolades for both her musical talents and mathematical prowess. Chantal's love of numbers won her a scholarship to the University of Manitoba where she completed a degree in Business Administration and Computers with honours. Chantal went on to work as an actuary student at North American Life for five years. When she found that a desk job was too confining, Chantal began exploring a career in music. This took her to British Columbia, where she attained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Therapy at Capilano College. As a Music Therapist, she enriched the lives of people with mental illness and pioneered music therapy programs at a hospice and at an alternative health facility for cancer care in the Lower Mainland. During these years, Chantal furthered her education, by acquiring credentials in many alternative healing techniques, including Guided Imagery in Music, Reiki, Psych K, Healing Touch, Sound Healing, and Reflexology. Chantal lived life to the fullest. She brought great joy to the lives of those around her. Her vivacious presence and energy lit up every room. Her quick wit and contagious laughter will always be remembered, and she will be greatly missed by all. Chantal's friends are invited to share in the celebration of her life on December 5th at 2:30 p.m. at the Canadian Memorial Church at 3100 Burrard Street, Vancouver (corner of Burrard and 15th Ave). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to InspireHealth (#200-1330 W. 8th Ave., Vancouver, BC V6H 4A6), the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (BC/Yukon Region or The St. James Cottage Hospice (650 N. Penticton St., Vancouver, BC V6A 1G5).

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I did not know Chantal Jolly personally, but I feel her presence and gift in the financial support I have received in the Chantal Jolly Memorial Bursary which allows me to continue the Capilano Music Therapy program, something that is not easy for me to pay for. Learning about her life and her contributions lets me in on a flash of her light, and I can start to comprehend what that might look like for those who knew her. I am deeply grateful for the Jolly family. Thank you and I will keep the memory of Chantal close while I pursue this career that she loved so much. - Posted by: Ren Zhang (Award Recipient ) on: Dec 15, 2023

  • I did not know Chantal Jolly but I am the recent award recipient of the Chantal Jolly Memorial Award at Capilano University. I am in my final year of Music Therapy and I am deeply touched to read about her. She touched so many lives and I hope that I can be a part of carrying her legacy in the field of Music Therapy. I also have an interest in Sound Healing so we have something in common. :) Thank you. - Posted by: Sherryl Sewepagaham (Award Recipient) on: Jan 09, 2016

  • I am very sad to hear of Chantal's passing. She was my band and jazz student at Garden City Collegiate in Winnipeg. She was an outstanding musician and as well as being an outstanding human being. I am sure she touched many lives and I'm glad I got to know her even briefly years ago! - Posted by: Jane Paulson (Friend) on: Nov 22, 2009
