Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS MARGUERITE ROBSON (nee TOMISON) January 18, 1918 - November 23, 2009 It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Doris Marguerite Robson, on November 23, 2009, at Park Manor Personal Care Home. Doris was predeceased by her husband Jim, brother Hunter and sister Nan. She leaves to mourn her passing her children Jim (Barbara), Anne (Dick) Shannon, Michael (Geri), grandchildren Shonell (Peter) Higgins, Jeremy, James (Jodi) Shannon, Louise (Mike) Kulawic, Christian, Johanna and Joshua, great-grandchildren Carter, Jayden, Kimberlyn and Chelsea. Doris was born and raised in Milngavie Scotland, where she was very active in the local church and working at her father's clothing store. It was while working there that Doris obtained her hairdressing license. When the Second World War started she enlisted with the British Air Force (WAAF) and was employed as a hairdresser during the war. A distant relative came to visit her family, and that is when she fell in love with Jim and subsequently they were married in Glasgow at the end of the war. After the war ended in 1945 mom was a war bride and came to live in Transcona where she spent the rest of her life. Doris became an active member of the Transcona Memorial United Church, spending countless hours volunteering and served on the Ladies Auxiliary from 1950 until 2005, and was still a member until her passing. She received a 50 year pin for her service to the Church and it's members. Doris's speciality was cooking, baking, fishing, gardening , and even tried her hand at bowling. Over the years she has travelled to Scotland, Orkney Isles, Germany and Hawaii numerous times. Doris and Jim built a cottage at Lester Beach in the 50s where they spent their summers. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. W., with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if friends so wish donations may be made to the Transcona Memorial United Church. She will be sadly missed.
