JACOB J. HUEBNER Jacob J. Huebner passed away peacefully at Donwood Manor at age 89 on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 after suffering a stroke on Sunday. He will be missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Katherine (Fehr) Huebner; four sons, Victor (Merle), Bob (Angela), Gerald (Beverly), and Randy (Kimberley); 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, Hilda Rempel, Amanda Huebner, Louise Dahl; and brother Cornelius Huebner. Jake was born in Alexanderkrone, Russia, and after immigrating to Canada in 1924, the family settled in Manitou. As a young man he farmed with his father. During the Second World War he held to his pacifist beliefs and served as a Conscientious Objector and maintained friendships with fellow COs until his passing. He farmed at Manitou until 1963 when he moved to Winnipeg. Jake's life foundation was his faith in Jesus Christ. He attended Winkler Bible School and was a long serving Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader. Jake faced life threatening illness and injury a number of times. In 1961 Jake was seriously ill with Tetanus and he attributed his recovery directly to God's answer to the prayers of many, many people. After recovering, he left the farm and worked as a poultry fieldman for a number of hatcheries. Later other jobs included partsman at Redekop Outdoor Living, Rene's Marine and Crop Insurance Adjuster. Jake loved to work with people, traveling around the countryside and talking to the many people he got to know. In retirement Jake took up woodworking and has blessed many with intarsia geese and eagles. He was a devoted husband and father. He had a servant's heart and enjoyed serving his family and Church. His sense of humour allowed him to make many friends and his good nature will be missed. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, 1420 Portage Avenue with interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Donwood Manor Chapel, 171 Donwood Drive and at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 5K9.
